Keybreak Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-29
Keybreak (“the app”) is an app for Android and iPhone that helps you recover a code you have forgotten on a lock you own (combination padlock, keypad lock, dialer, etc.). This document describes how the app handles your information on both.
Summary
Keybreak collects nothing, transmits nothing, and shares nothing. It works entirely offline.
Data we collect
We collect no personal data.
The app stores the following information only on your device:
- The names you give to your guessing sessions (e.g. “Front door”, “Bike lock”).
- The character set, length, and status of each session.
- The list of codes you have already tried for each session, with timestamps.
- Your theme and language preferences.
This data is held in a private SQLite database and preferences files inside the app’s sandbox. On Android 13 and later and on iPhone, the app language you pick is stored by the system’s own per-app language setting, also on your device. It is never sent off your device by Keybreak. It is removed when you uninstall the app.
Permissions
Keybreak requests no permissions on Android or iPhone. The app does not access:
- The internet
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, files, or media (apart from a single file you pick yourself when importing or exporting codes, see below)
- Your location, microphone, camera, or sensors
- Your device identifiers
Exporting, importing and backup files
You can export a session’s tried codes to a plain-text file, or import codes from one. You can also back up every session, with its name, status and tried codes, to a single file from Settings, and restore such a file later. All of these go through the system file picker (on iPhone, the one from the Files app): Keybreak reads or writes only the file you choose and needs no storage permission. On iPhone the picker works with copies: an export is written to a temporary file that the picker copies to the place you choose, and an import is read from a temporary copy of the file you pick. Keybreak deletes both temporary files afterwards. Keybreak never uploads these files. If you save an export or a backup to a cloud folder (for example Google Drive or iCloud Drive), that copy is handled by the provider you picked and leaves your device.
Third-party services
Keybreak uses no third-party services, SDKs, analytics, advertising networks, or crash-reporting services. It does not embed any tracking pixels or telemetry of any kind.
Children
Keybreak does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. It is suitable for general audiences.
Account deletion
Keybreak does not have user accounts. To delete the data the app has stored on your device, uninstall the app from Settings → Apps, or use Settings → Apps → Keybreak → Storage → Clear data. On iPhone, deleting the app removes its data as well.
Backups
Keybreak disables Android Auto Backup (android:allowBackup="false"), and its backup and device-transfer rules additionally exclude the session database and preferences. Your session names, tried codes, and solved codes are therefore never copied to a cloud backup or transferred to another device by Android — they stay in the app’s private storage on this device and are removed when you uninstall.
On iPhone, Keybreak excludes its session database from iCloud and computer backups, so iOS doesn’t copy your session names, tried codes, and solved codes to a backup either. The app’s settings file, which holds only your theme and language choice, is included in iCloud and computer backups, like other apps’ settings.
To move your sessions to another device, use Settings → Back up all sessions, which writes one file to a location you choose, and restore that file on the other device.
